The reason for the season

At this time of the year, we only need to make a trip to any shopping mall to see elaborate decorations with each having their own "theme". No cost is spared in order to be the best. After all, the whole idea is to attract as many people as possible. More people means more sales, hence more revenue.

As people get caught up in their annual year-end "Christmas" shopping spree, we must not forget the real meaning of Christmas. Even though we hear carols played all over the malls, strangely, none of the decorations even remotely resemble any of the scenes depicted in the songs. Much too often, the Christ of Christmas is sadly left out.

So, why do we celebrate Christmas and what is it really all about?

In the words of the song, We Are The Reason written by David Meece, the reason for Christmas is aptly conveyed.

We Are The Reason
As little children
We would dream of Christmas morn'
And all the gifts and toys
We knew we'd find
But we never realized
A baby born one blessed night
Gave us the greatest gift of our lives

We were the reason
That He gave His life
We were the reason
That He suffered and died
To a world that was lost
He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

As the years went by
We learned more about gifts
Giving of ourselves
And what that means
On a dark and cloudy day
A man hung crying in the rain
Because of love, because of love

I've finally found the reason for living
It's in giving every part of my heart to Him
In all that I do, every word that I say
I'll be giving my all just for Him, for Him

We are the reason
That He gave His life
We are the reason
That He suffered and died
To a world that was lost
He gave all He could give
To show us the reason to live

He is my reason to live

Listen to the song in a beautifully put together video.

Family Retreat @ Selesa Resort

Faith EFC had a church retreat on 31st August -2nd September, 2007 at the Selesa Resort, Bukit Tinggi, Pahang. The place is just about 45 min drive from Kuala Lumpur by car.

Seow Lit Fong was given the responsibility to organize this retreat. All together there were 40 persons attending, including 10 children.

During this 2-day retreat, church members watched two video presentations based on two talks given by Bill Hull. The first talk entitled “Spiritual Disciplines” was shown on Friday night and the second talk “Revival, Reformation and Repentance” was shown on Saturday morning. After each session, church members were divided into three groups to discuss the messages based on questions prepared by Lim Lee. The results of the discussion were shared during the Sunday morning worship.

After lunch on Saturday, some of us took advantage of the free time to explore Janda Baik, a short drive away. We visited a couple of places with interesting buildings and flowing streams. The children enjoyed themselves wading in the refreshing streams of water.

There was also a time of fun and laughter when children and adults participated in the games organized by Yun Yee on Saturday night.

The retreat not only provided a time of fellowship and some relaxation but it also challenged members to build spiritual disciplines in their Christian lives.
